DENVER, Colo.--- After splitting its four straight doubleheader, the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks finished the week 4-4. This afternoon, the 'Jacks split their doubleheader with MSU-Denver winning the opener 6-3 but losing in the night cap 10-2 (6).
GAME ONE: The game was scoreless until the 'Jack half of the second inning.
Katelyn Dendas was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. She went to second on a one-out single by
Alyssa Ramirez. Still with one out,
Anna Brondos walked to load the bases. Dendas scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by
Tessa Poirier. With the count 2-1,
JoAna Mullins hit a two-out two-run double to score Ramirez and Brondos. Lead-off hitter
Micaela Harris doubled home Mullins. Harris scored on a double by
Emily McAdams. The Lumberjack's sixth run came on another double, this one by
Izzy Starr which brought in McAdams.
MSU-Denver (3-1) scored its first run in the fifth. The Roadrunners added two more in the sixth to cut the 'Jack lead to 6-3.
Karen Di DIo (2-0) pitched a complete game, giving up three unearned runs, striking out six and walking two in the win for Humboldt. Harris finished game one three-for-four with her ninth stolen base of the week. McAdams had two hits while Mullins drove in two runs for the visitors.
GAME TWO: Once again, the 'Jacks took the early lead a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by
Vanessa Saltos in the top of the second inning. The Roadrunners took a 6-1 lead with a six-run second inning. Rebecca Gonzalez's two-run one-out single keyed the MSU-Denver second.
MSU-Denver added two more runs in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead. Humboldt cut the Roadrunner lead with a run in the fifth. Harris had a one-triple and scored on an infield single by Starr.
The Roadrunners added another run in the fifth and in the sixth to take the night cap 10-2 in six innings. Audrey Burt (1-0) picked up the win for the hosts.
Gaige Garcia (2-1) suffered the loss for the 'Jacks. Harris, Starr, Saltos and Ramirez each had a hit apiece for the Lumberjacks.
Humboldt is off until the weekend of February 18-19, when the 'Jacks begin CCAA play. The Lumberjacks will face Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game conference series in Carson. The two teams will play a noon starting doubleheader on Friday, February 18. The series will conclude on Saturday, February 19 with a 10am starting doubleheader.
