Jacks Sweep Today’s Doubleheader from Stanislaus State to Take The Weekend Series

TURLOCK, Calif.---  The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks swept today's CCAA doubleheader from the Stanislaus State Warriors 10-2 (6) and 10-9 to take the weekend series three games to one.  Karen Di Dio (6-5) went 2-0 this afternoon as she pitched six innings, giving up two runs and six hits while walking one and striking out two.  The Jacks pounded out 22 hits and scored 20 runs in the two games today in Turlock, Calif. 
 
GAME ONE:   Micaela Harris' lead-off solo home run to begin the game gave Humboldt an early 1-0 lead.  Ciera Pyle walked and went to third when JoAna Mullins reached on a fielder's choice.  The Jacks took a 4-0 lead on a three-run home run by Vanessa Saltos
 
Saltos hit her second home run of the game and ninth of the season, a two-run two-out shot to increase Humboldt's lead to 6-0 in the top of the third inning.  The Jacks took a 10-0 lead after a four-run fourth.  Mullins' bases clearing two-out triple drove in the first three runs of the inning for the guests.  The Jacks added another run on an Izzy Starr single that brought in Mullins with Humboldt's tenth run of the game.
 
Stanislaus State (6-15, 4-12 CCAA) cut the deficit to 10-2 with a two-run fourth of its own. Kelsey Burr came in the fifth to retired the Warriors in order as Humboldt took the opener 10-2 in five innings.
 
JACK STARS:  Karen Di DIo picked up the win, pitching four innings, giving up six hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one.  Kelsey Burr pitched a scoreless fifth and struck out two.  Vanessa Saltos went two-for-three with four runs batted in, scoring two runs and hitting two home runs.  Izzy Starr had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run.  JoAna Mullins went one-for-three, drove in three runs, hitting a triple and scoring twice for the Jacks.
 
GAME TWO:  Once again, Cal Poly Humboldt (10-14, 6-10 CCAA) took an early lead in its first at bat.  Micaela Harris had a lead-off double and scored on a one-out single by JoAna Mullins to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead.  Humboldt doubled its lead in the second inning.  Julia Rivera walked with one out and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hollee Travao. Boo Guevera ran for Rivera and she scored when Harris reached on a dropped fly ball to the Warrior second baseman as the Jacks took a 2-0 lead.
 
Stanislaus State took a 3-2 lead with a three-run second inning.  The innings was capped by a Sarah Warden run scoring single.
 
Humboldt retook the lead with a six-run fourth inning.  Alyssa Ramirez had a lead-off double and went to third on a single by Travao.  Both runners scored on a triple to right center by Harris which she scored on an errant throw.  Still with one out, Ciera Pyle walked and went to second on a single by Mullins. Izzy Starr's single scored Pyle and put Mullins on second.  Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Mullins scored on a sacrifice bunt by Vanessa Saltos.  With two outs, Humboldt took an 8-3 lead on a single by Megan Escobar
 
The Jacks added another run in the eighth to increase their lead to 9-3.  Harris reached on a fielder's choice. She stole second and then stole third base and scored on an errant throw.  These were Harris' 18th and 19th stolen bases of the season. 
 
Stanislaus State tied the game, 9-9, with a six-run fifth inning capped by a Warden single.  The game remained tied at 9-9 until the top of the seventh.
 
Escobar had a lead-off single and went to third on a double by Ramirez.  Tessa Poirier reached on a fielder's choice which Escobar was at home.  Travao loaded the bases for Harris.  With one out, Harris singled through the right side to bring in Ramirez with the go-ahead run. 
 
Karen Di Dio retired the Warriors in order including inducing the final out on a fly out to Katelyn Dendas in right center as the Jacks took the night cap 10-9 and the series 3-1.
 
JACK STARS:  Karen Di DIo (6-5) picked up her second win of the day by pitching two scoreless innings of relief while giving up no hits.  Megan Escobar also pitched a scoreless inning of relief.  Micaela Harris went three-for-five with three runs batted in, three runs scored, a double, a triple and two stolen bases.  Hollee Travao, JoAna Mullins, Izzy Starr, Alyssa Ramirez and Escobar all had two hits for Humboldt.
 
UP NEXT:  Humboldt will continue its six-game road trip tomorrow, March 13 with a noon non-conference starting doubleheader with Academy of Art at Mission Blue Field in Brisbane, Calif.  The Jacks will return home March 18-19 when they host Sonoma State in a four-game CCAA series at Humboldt Softball Field.
