ARCATA, Calif.--- The visiting Sonoma State Seawolves swept today's doubleheader from the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks 10-1 (5) and 6-1 this afternoon at Humboldt's Softball Field. The two teams will conclude the four-game series tomorrow morning with an 11am starting doubleheader in Arcata.
GAME ONE: Sonoma State (16-13, 8-10 CCAA) took advantage of a Lumberjack error to begin the game to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Seawolves increased its lead to 6-0 with a four-run second inning capped by a two-run home run by Jordyn Martinez. They took a 9-0 lead after a three-run third inning.
Humboldt scored its first run in the bottom of the third inning.
Annabelle Dixon had a lead-off walk and went to second on a wild pitch. She advanced to third on a one-out single by
Micaela Harris. Dixon scored on a two-out run scoring single by
JoAna Mullins.
The Seawolves scored its tenth run of the game in the fifth inning on a two-out run scoring double by Anna Zoia-Buescher which scored Giana Hays. The Jacks didn't score in their half of the fifth as Sonoma State took game one 10-1 in five innings.
JACK STARS: JoAna Mullins had two hits and drove in Humboldt's run.
Vanessa Saltos and
Micaela Harris each had a hit while Harris stole her 24
th base of the season.
GAME TWO: Cal Poly Humboldt (11-17, 6-12 CCAA) took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Micaela Harris had a lead-off single and stole her 25
th base of the season. She scored on a two-out single by
Izzy Starr.
Reagan Hunt's two-out three-run home run in the top of the second inning gave the visitors a 3-1 lead. Sonoma State added an insurance run in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. The Seawolves increased their lead to 5-1 on a successful Jordyn Martinez suicide squeeze play which scored Anna Zoia-Buescher in the top of the fifth inning. They added another run in the seventh on a two-out double by Martinez to take a 6-1 lead.
Humboldt had a chance to cut into the Seawolf lead in the bottom of the seventh.
Boo Guevara had a two-out pinch-hit single, but Jesse Dupuis induced the last Jack to fly out to center field to end the game and preserve the 6-1 Sonoma victory.
JACK STARS: Izzy Starr had two of Humboldt's four hits. She also drove in
Micaela Harris who had two stolen bases to give her 26 for the season.
Vanessa Richie (2-3) pitched seven innings, giving up eight hits and six runs (five earned) while striking out four.
