Sonoma State Sweeps Jacks

ARCATA, Calif.--- Sonoma State swept the final two games of this weekend's four-game conference series from the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks 10-4 and 13-3 (5).  Humboldt's Micaela Harris went six-for-six while scoring four times and stealing three bases to lead the way for the Jacks. Also, with a multiple-hit day was Megan Escobar with three hits while driving in a run for Humboldt.
 
GAME ONE:  Sonoma State (18-13, 10-10 CCAA) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning keyed by a two-out triple by Cassidy Romano.  The Seawolves doubled their lead to 6-0 with a three-run fourth inning.   Jordyn Martinez's two-out triple capped a three-run fifth for the guests as they took a 9-0 lead. 
 
Cal Poly Humboldt got on the board with a two-run fifth inning. Boo Guevara had a lead-off walk and went to second on a wild pitch.  She advanced to third on a one-out single by Micaela Harris.  Pinch hitter Julia Rivera walked to load the bases and was ran for by Annabelle Dixon. Guevara and Harris scored when JoAna Mullins reached on a fielding error to cut Sonoma's lead to 9-2. 
 
The Seawolves added an insurance run on a one-out run scoring double by Courtney Jack in the top of the sixth to increase the guests' lead to 10-2. 

The Jacks didn't go away as they cut the deficit to 10-4 with a two-run sixth inning.  Megan Escboar had a lead-off single and went to second when Harris walked with two outs.  Mullins reached on a fielding error by the Seawolves which brought in Escobar and Mullins. 
 
The Seawolves retired the Jacks in order in the seventh to preserve the 10-4 victory by Sonoma State. 
 
JACK STARS:  Micaela Harris went three-for-three to lead the way for Humboldt. She scored two runs and stole a base.  Three other Jacks had a hit apiece in Izzy Starr, Vanessa Saltos and Megan EscobarAva Hand pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief pitching, giving up two hits and striking out one.
 
GAME TWO:  Sonoma State took a 1-0 lead on a two-out run scoring single by Giana Hays in the top of the first inning.  Cal Poly Humboldt (11-19, 6-14 CCAA) tied the game in its half of the first.  Micaela Harris had a lead-off single, stole second and scored on a run scoring single by Annabelle Dixon
 
The Seawolves took a 5-1 lead with a four-run second inning keyed by a three-run home run by Anna Zoia-Buescher.  They added another run in the third to take a 6-1 lead. 
 
Humboldt cut the deficit in half, 6-3, with a two-run third.  Harris had a lead-off single, stole second and scored on a two-out double by Izzy StarrMegan Escobar drove in Starr with the Lumberjacks' third run of the game. 
 
The Seawolves broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning to take a 13-3 lead.  The two big hits in the inning was a grand slam home run by Courtney Jack and a three-run home run by Reagan Hunt.
 
JACK STARS:  Micaela Harris went three-for-three with two runs score, two stolen bases and a triple.  Megan Escobar drove in a run and went two-for-two.  Three other Jacks had a hit apiece in Annabelle Dixon, JoAna Mullins and Izzy Starr.
 
UP NEXT:  Cal Poly Humboldt will return to the diamond this Friday, March 25 when the Jacks begin an eleven-game road trip with a doubleheader at Cal State Monterey Bay beginning at 1pm in Seaside.  The Jacks will return home on Friday, April 15 with a 1pm starting doubleheader versus Cal State San Bernardino.  This will be the Lumberjacks' Dam Worth It Game in recognition of Mental Health Awareness.
