ASHLAND, Ore.--- Cal Poly Humboldt's duo of
Elliott Portillo and
Kegan Richards led the way for the Jacks in Day One of the Raider invitational that was held this evening on the campus of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. Both Portillo and Richards placed first in their respective events. Portillo captured the 5000-meter run with a personal best time of 14:54.27. Richards had a personal best throw of 152-01 (46.37m) to capture first place in the discus.

Portillo was one of three Jacks to finish in the top ten in the men's 5,000-meter run. All three Jacks recorded their personal best times. After Portillo,
Jaxon Leduc finished in fifth with a time of 15:29.13 followed by
Mica Mills in tenth place with a time of 15:49.35. Over in women's 5,000-meter,
Rosa Granados finished in second place with a time of 18:03.84 followed by
Saedy Williamson in fourth (18:18.06) and
Sophie Smith in sixth (18:42.61).
The Jacks had the three of the top five placers in the men's discus including Richards' first place finish.
Jared Del Real had a second-place throw of 145-08 (44.40m) while
Nolan Smith finished in fourth-place with a throw of 138-01 (42-10m).
In the men' 1500-meter run, the Jacks had seven of the top ten placers paced by Aris Valero (second, 4:01.47) followed by
Carson Smith (third, 4:01.87). Right behind Smith was Sebastian Vassiet-Fauvel (fourth, 4:03.83) and
Julian Jensen (fifth, 4:04.55). Rounding out the pack for the Jacks were
Dominic Raffetto (seventh, 4:09.66),
Charles Becker-Ellison (eighth, 4:10.18) and
Ricardo Torres (ninth, 4:11.15).
Leading the way for the Jacks in the women's 1500-meter run were the duo of
Emily Bath and
Melissa Pinter. Bath finished in fourth with her time of 4:45.28 followed by Pinter in eighth-place with a time of 5:05.41.
Dezmond Remington also competed today in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Remington finished in second place with his time of 11:18.18.
The Jacks will compete in Day Two of the Raider Invitational tomorrow, April 16. Day Two will begin with men's pole vault and long jump in the field events. The first running event will be the women's 4x100 relay at 12pm.
Besides the Lumberjacks competing in the Raider Invitational, the following teams are competing in Ashland, Ore., in Oregon Tech University, Southern Oregon University, Corban University, Simpson University, Clackamas Community College, Southwest Oregon Community College, Umpqua Community College and the College of the Siskyous.
