Michael Payan To Represent Cal Poly Humboldt Track & Field at NCAA DII Outdoor Championships


EMPORIA, Kan. - Sophomore Michael Payan of the Cal Poly Humboldt men's track & field team will be competing at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships hosted by Emporia State this weekend. He will be representing the green & gold in the men's pole vault on Saturday, May 23 at 2 p.m., where he will go up against the best of the best across the country.

Payan was a USTFCCCA West Region selection in the pole vault this season and a two-time CCAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week as well as a CCAA champion in his event, placing first with a mark of 5.20m at the CCAA Championships earlier this month. The sophomore has taken gold in the pole vault in each and every meet he has competed in in 2026. He earned a personal best leap of 5.35m at the Wildcat Invitational, just barely cracking his previous best of 5.32m from the 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships.

The star pole vaulter will take the stage this weekend in Kansas to improve on his recent performances and compete on one of the biggest stages.
