ARCATA, Calif.--- Cal State San Bernardino held off Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks' game two rally to sweep today's doubleheader in Arcata, with the final scores of 9-1 and 9-5. The teams will conclude the four-game conference series tomorrow with another doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11am.
GAME ONE: Bailey Wallace's two-out three-run home run in the top of the first inning gave Cal State San Bernardino (17-25, 10-20 CCAA) an early 3-0 lead. The Jacks came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first.
JoAna Mullins had a one-out single. She scored on a two-out single by
Katelyn Dendas.
The Yotes added four more runs in the top of the second with two coming on a home run by Tereise Tosi to increase their lead to 7-1. They added an insurance run in the third to take an 8-1 lead. CSUSB took a 9-1 lead in the seventh on a run scoring double by Veronica Garza.
JACK STARS: Three different Jacks had one hit apiece in
Micaela Harris,
JoAna Mullins and Katleyn Dendas. Dendas drove in a run while Mullins scored the Jacks' run. Harris also stole her 40
th base of the season.
Kelsey Burr pitched four innings of relief, giving up one hit and a run while striking out four and walking one.
GAME TWO: The Yotes took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Shannon Galliano walked with one out and later scored on a two-out single by Kelia Peragas. They increased their lead to 5-1 with a four-run third inning. Tereise Tosi's two-run home run keyed the four-run second for the visitors.
Cal Poly Humboldt (13-29, 6-20) cut the deficit to 5-4 with a four-run third.
Micaela Harris had a lead-off single. She stole second and then
JoAna Mullins walked with no outs. Harris scored on a single by
Izzy Starr who then stole second.
Katelyn Dendas drove in Mullins with the Jacks' second run on a single. With no outs,
Alyssa Ramirez walked to load the bases. Starr and Dendas scored on a two-out single by
Anna Brondos to cut the Yote lead to 5-4.
The Jacks tied the game, 5-5, on a two-out solo home run by Star (her sixth of the season) in the bottom of the fourth.
The game remained tied at 5-5 until CSUSB's sixth inning. The Yotes took a 9-5 lead after a four-run sixth.
Humboldt had a chance to cut into the visitors' lead in its half of the sixth. With two outs, Mullins and Starr singled but were stranded their when Samantha Vargas (1-7) struck out the Jack batter to preserve the 9-5 Yote lead.
Vanessa Saltos had a one-out single in the seventh, but was stranded there as Vargas induced the next two batters to fly out to right field and to line out to third to preserve the 9-5 CSUSB victory.
JACK STARS. Izzy Starr went three-for-four with two runs scored, two runs batted in, a home run and a stolen base.
Alyssa Ramirez had two hits while
Anna Brondos drove in two runs. JoAnna Mullins had two hits while
Micaela Harris stole her 41
st base of the season.
