Evelyn Andrews who passed away two years ago. The parents of
Evelyn Andrews threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Cal San Bernardino took both ends of today's doubleheader with the Jacks 4-2 and 5-3.
GAME ONE: The first game was a pitcher's duel between the Jacks'
Karen Di Dio (7-15) and the Yotes' Brooklyn Blackmon until the last three innings. Cal Poly Humboldt (13-32, 6-22 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Anna Brondos and
Hollee Travao had back to back singles to lead off the inning. They advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by
Micaela Harris. With two outs,
JoAna Mullins drove in Travao with a single down the left field line to give Humboldt a 1-0 lead.
The game remained 1-0 Humboldt until the top of the seventh inning. Kelia Paragas had a lead-off single and went to third on a double by Alyssa Rodriguez. Tereise Tosi reached on a fielder's choice, which the Jacks threw out Paragas at home. With two outs, Bailey Wallace hit a bases-clearing double to center field to give the visitors a 3-1 lead. She scored on a double by Kaylee Williamson as the Yotes took a 4-1 lead.
The Jacks had a chance to tie the game in their last at bat. Harris had a one-out single, she stole second, went to third on a ground out by Mullins. She scored when
Izzy Starr reached on a fielding error by CSUSB to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Katelyn Dendas walked to place runners on first and second. Blackmon induced the Humboldt batter to fly out to center field to preserve the Yote 4-2 victory.
JACK STARS: JoAna Mullins and
Hollee Travao each had two hits for the Jacks. Mullins had a run batted in while Travao and
Micaela Harris each scored a run for the Jacks.
GAME TWO: Cal State San Bernardino (19-25, 12-20 CCAA) took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Alexis Aguado reached on a three-base error by the Jacks. She scored on a ground out by Kaylee Williamson to give the Yotes a 1-0 lead.
They doubled their lead in the third. Aguado had a one-out triple and second on a two-out double by Kaylee Williamson as the visitors took a 2-0 lead.
The Jacks took a 3-2 lead with a three-run fifth inning.
Emily McAdams had one-out infield single. She went to second on a wild pitch and scored on
Hollee Travao's first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
Micaela Harris followed that with an infield single and stole her 44
th and 45
th bases of the season.
JoAna Mullins reached on a fielder's choice. With one out, Harris scored on a wild pitch as the Jacks took a 3-2 lead.
Cal State San Bernardino retook the lead, 5-3, with a three-run sixth inning. Williamson was hit by a pitch with one out and went to second when Bailey Wallace walked. Shannon Galliano drove in Williamson with a single to tie the game at 3-3. The Yotes took the lead, 5-3, on a two-out triple by Kelia Paragas.
Brooklyn Blackmon, who came on in relief for CSUSB, retired the Jacks in order in both the sixth and seventh innings as the Yotes took the night cap 5-3.
JACK STARS: Micaela Harris had two of the Jacks' six hits, scored a run and had two stolen bases.
Hollee Travao hit her first home run in the Green and Gold, a two-run shot over the left field fence.
Emily McAdams (0-3) pitched seven innings, giving up six hits and five runs (four earned) while striking out six and walking two.
UP NEXT: The Jacks will return to the diamond, April 22-23, for a four-game series at San Francisco State. This will be Humboldt's final road trip of the regular season. The four-game series will begin with a 1pm starting doubleheader on April 22. The series will conclude with an 11am starting doubleheader on April 23. Humboldt will return home, April 29-30, for a four-game series with No. 4 Cal State San Marcos. The doubleheader on April 29 will be the Jacks' Dam Worth It Game in awareness of Mental Health. Prior to their doubleheader on April 30, Humboldt will recognize its senior prior to game one. This will also be the Jacks' Big Game.
