ARCATA, Calif.--- Humboldt failed to find the net as the Urban Knights scored two first half goals to break away for a 2-0 victory over the Lumberjacks at College Creek Field on Monday afternoon. Academy of Art scored just over three minutes into the game on a goal by Ismael Elmi and followed up in the 39th minute with a goal by William Mychaltchouk to pull away for good. Adrian Gallardo recorded four saves in the loss as the Lumberjacks dropped to 1-2-3 overall.
Â
It didn't take long for the Urban Knights to find the goal, as Elmi connected on a pass from Gilly Miller in the third minute to take an early 1-0 lead. Humboldt struggled offensively in the first half, only managing three shots compared to Academy of Art's nine. Dylan Tovani had two shot attempts early, both of which missed left. This, along with two seperate offsides calls, stymied the Jacks attacking efforts in the opening half. The Urban Knights added on to their score with just a few minutes before halftime behind a goal by Mychaltchoulk assisted by Breki Einarsson.
Â
The Lumberjacks made multiple attempts, but failed to capture any meaningful momentum in the second half. Tovani started the half with a shot attempt that was saved by Art goalkeeper Davis King. A red card on Juan Perez in the 69th minute did nothing to help swing things in the Jacks favor, as the team was forced to play with 10 players for the remainder of the match. Overall, the game saw six different yellow cards: two committed by the Jacks and four committed by Academy of Art.Â
Â
Tovani added two more shot attempts in the second half while Landon Leal Ruiz had another three shot attempts. Ethan Conaty had the Jacks' other lone shot on goal attempt in the 79th minute, which was saved by King.Â

UP NEXT: Humboldt will look to bounce back before the CCAA season officially begins with a rare non-conference matchup against familiar rival Chico State. The Jacks will kick off against the Wildcats at University Stadium in Chico on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7pm.
