CHICO, Calif.--- Humboldt battled for 90 minutes, but ultimately failed to put the ball in goal, as the Lumberjacks had to settle for a scoreless draw with Northern California rival Chico State on Saturday night at University Stadium in Chico. Adrian Gallardo recorded six saves and his third shutout of the season as eight different players had shot attempts for the Jacks. The tie sends the Lumberjacks into conference play with a 1-2-4 non-conference record.


FIRST HALF: Daniel Adeyeye and Alex Lopez attempted shots in the fifth and sixth minutes to kickstart the Jacks offense. The Wildcats responded with corner kicks in the 10th, 11th and 12th minutes. The third corner kick resulted in a shot by Miles Rice that was saved by Gallardo. Chico had another chance to score off a shot by Kameron Kascht in the 34th minute, but another Gallardo save kept things scoreless. Edgar Castaneda attempted a shot in the 38th minute that was saved by Chico goalkeeper Luis Albarran, as both teams entered the half with chances to score, but nothing to show for it. Overall, Chico had advantage in first half shot attempts (9-3). 

SECOND HALF: Humboldt began the second period aggressively, with Edgar Gonzalez missing left just 16 seconds into the half. Chico's Owen Vasta responded about a little over two minutes later with two shot attempts in the 47th and 48th minutes. Humboldt had another chance to score in the 56th minute, but Marcus Abdel-Malek's shot missed left. Gallardo earned another save in the 66th minute off a shot by Vasta. Gonzalez had another chance to score with less than nine minutes in the match, but another Albarran saved dashed any hopes of a Lumberjack lead. Humboldt had a handful of last ditch attempts in the 87th and 89th minutes by Olver Horgan and Abdel-Malek, but both shots missed wide, as the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

STATS: Eight Lumberjacks, including Alex Lopez, Dylan Tovani, Daniel Adeyeye, Motoki Sato, Edgar Castaneda, Edgar Gonzalez, Marcus Abdel-Malek and Oliver Horgan, attempted shot attempts tonight. However, only Castaneda and Gonzalez had shot attempts on goal. Chico held a 20-10 advantage on shots and a 8-0 advantage on corner kicks. Despite the advantage in shot attempts, the Jacks were still able to hold Chico scoreless behind Gallardo's six saves, four of which came in the second half.
