WAIPAUHU, Hawai'i--- Cal Poly Humboldt stayed unbeaten on the season after a 1-1 draw at Hawai'i Pacific this evening in Hawai'i. The Jacks tied the match at 1-1 in the 74
th minute as
Alex Lopez connected on a ball from
Devin Hauenstein and
Cole Falco. The Jacks had a chance late in the match to take the lead, but their shot attempt was blocked and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. This was Humboldt's third straight stale-match to start the 2022 season.
FIRST HALF: The hosts, Hawai'i Pacific Sharks, took the early 1-0 lead in the 15
th minute as Leandro Weingartner scored an unassisted goal. Hawai'i Pacific (0-1-2) had a chance to double its lead but
Adrian Gallardo made one of his two saves on the evening. The Jacks' only shot attempt in the first half came off the foot of
Marcus Abdel-Malek, but it was blocked by the Shark defense in the 33
rd minute as the match went into the half tied at 1-1.
SECOND HALF: Gallardo made his second save of the evening in the 58
th minute when he stopped the Sharks' Jordan Furukawa attempt to double the hosts' lead. The match remained 1-0 Hawai'i Pacific until the 74
th minute when
Alex Lopez connected on his first goal of the season off a ball from
Devin Hauenstein and
Cole Falco to tie the match for Cal Poly Humboldt (0-0-3). The Jacks had a chance to take the lead with less than seven minutes left when
Ramiro Rosas' shot attempt was blocked by HPU's defense. The hosts had two chances late to take the lead but they sailed high over the goal as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
THIRD DRAW: This evening's 1-1 draw at Hawai'i Pacific was the Jacks' third tie to start the 2022 regular season. Humboldt opened the season with a 2-2 draw with Northwest Nazarene and a scoreless tie with Holy Names to begin the season at home last weekend.
NUMBER 5/11: Alex Lopez's goal was his fifth of his career in the Green and Gold. Last season, Lopez scored four goals and had two game-winning goals.
Devin Hauenstein's assist on Lopez's goal was his 11
th of his career. He had a career high five during the 2019 season. Last season, Hauenstein had two assists.
GALLARDO: After posting a school record 0.85 goals against average last season,
Adrian Gallardo has a 1.00 goals against average in Humboldt's first three matches of the season. He has 11 saves this season including recording two this evening at HPU.
UP NEXT: The Jacks will finish out trip to the Hawaiian Islands on Sunday, September 4 with an 11am (HT) scheduled match at Vulcan Soccer Field against Hawai'i Hilo in Hilo, Hawai'i. This will be the Vulcans' regular season home opener. They went 6-7-1 last season including 4-4 at home.
