HILO, Hawai'i--- With less than eight minutes left in the match, the Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans scored what proved to be the game-winner on goal by Koki Hamada off a corner kick in the hosts' 2-1 victory over the visiting Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks. The Jacks took a 1-0 lead in the 18
th minute on a goal by
Ramiro Rosas off a ball from
Devin Hauenstein and
Juan Perez. Less than 13 minutes later, the Vulcans tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Andrew Rehedul.
Adrian Gallardo had four saves in goal for Humboldt.
FIRST HALF: Cal Poly Humboldt (0-1-3) took the early 1-0 lead on a goal by
Ramiro Rosas off a ball from
Devin Hauenstein and
Juan Perez in the 18
th minute. The Jacks had a chance to double their lead in the 20
th minute when Perez's shot sailed high over the crossbar.
Motoki Sato had a chance for his first goal of the season in the 23
rd minute, but just like Perez's shot it went high over the crossbar. Hawai'I Hilo tied the match at 1-1 in the 31
st minute on a goal by Andrew Rehedul on a ball from Alexander Hernandez-Herbach. It looked like the Jacks were going to tie the match twice late in the half. The first in the 36
th minute when the Vulcans' Christian Souza stopped
Edgar Castaneda's shot on goal attempt. With just four minutes left in the half, Nico Herrera-Land saw his shot on goal attempt be stopped by Souza as the match went into the half tied at 1-1.
SECOND HALF: Hawai'I Hilo had two chances to take the lead in the 60
th minute when
Adrian Gallardo stopped Tom Vorkastner and Aidan Santos' shot on goal attempts to keep the match tied at 1-1. Gallardo made another save in the 63
rd minute on a shot attempt by Hernandez-Herbach. The Jacks' Perez had a chance to give the visitors the lead in the 72
nd minute and in the 73
rd minute but his shot attempts were blocked or sailed high over the goal. Nine minutes later, Hawaii Hilo scored what proved to be the game-winner on a goal by Koki Hamada on a ball form Hernandez-Herbach and Muto Waturu. The Vulcans looked they were going to had another goal late but Gallardo made his fourth save of the match and the game ended with the hosts' victorious.
FIRST GOAL: Ramiro Rosas scored his first goal of the season in the 18
th minute. This was his third goal of his career in the Green and Gold. Rosas scored two goals of which one was a game-winner and added an assist.
UP NEXT: Cal Poly Humboldt will begin a two-match home stand this Wednesday, September 7 at 3pm when the Jacks host Simpson University. They will entertain Academy of Art on Monday, September 12 at noon. Humboldt will finish off its non-conference part of its schedule on Saturday, September 17 on the road with a 7pm rare non-conference match with Chico State.
