ARCATA, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks dominated the visiting Simpson University Red Hawks 7-0 this afternoon in a non-conference contest at College Creek Field.
Edgar Gonzalez scored three of the Jacks' seven goals while
Juan Perez had two goals.
Dylan Tovani assisted on three of Humboldt's goals and Perez added two assists.
FIRST HALF: The Jacks looked like they were going to take the lead just 17 seconds into the match when
Alex Lopez's shot was blocked by Simpson's defense. Two minutes later, Cal Poly Humboldt (1-1-3) took the 1-0 lead when Nico Herrera-land connected on a ball from
Juan Perez and
Dylan Tovani. The hosts doubled their lead three minutes later on the first of three goals by
Edgar Gonzalez off a cross from
Motoki Sato. They kept the scoring barrage going in the 13
th minute as
Devin Hauenstein connected on the second of three assists from Tovani. Their fifth goal of the half came off the foot of Perez on a ball from Tovani. Simpson (0-1-2) had a chance to cut into the Jack lead, but
Adrian Gallardo made his second save of the day stopping David Vasquez's shot on goal attempt and sending the match into the half with Humboldt leading 5-0.
SECOND HALF: Humboldt looked like it was going to extend its lead to 6-0, but
Marcus Abdel-Malek's shot was stopped by the Red Hawks' keeper. The Jacks scored their sixth goal of the matchin the 75
th minute when Gonzalez recorded the hat trick off a missed penalty kick. They solidified the 7-0 victory 26 seconds later when Perez scored his second goal of the match off a pass from
Gou Nitta.
GOALKEEPERS: Adrian Gallardo played the first 45 minutes and recorded two saves in goal for the Jacks.
Jacob Cotton played the second 45-minute period and had one save in goal for Humboldt.
TOTAL DOMINATION: Humboldt held a 21-7 shot advantage including a 10-3 shot on goal advantage. The Jacks also had eight corner kicks to the Red Hawks' three.
