ARCATA, Calif.---- After starting the season 1-2 at the Green Chile Classic in Silver City, New Mexico, the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks will host Cal State East Bay and Cal State San Marcos in their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and home openers of the 2022 season. The Jacks will entertain Cal State East Bay this Thursday, September 8 and Cal State San Marcos this Saturday, September 10. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 5pm in Lumberjack Arena.
LAST TIME ON THE COURT: The Jacks started the season going 1-2 in the Green Chile Classic in Silver City, New Mexico. Humboldt begin its season with a four-set win over Western New Mexico on August 25.
Lindsey McLaughlin had nine kills and seven digs to lead the way while
Amanda Klotz had seven kills and seven digs.
Kailie Flores recorded four service aces,
Avery McIntyre had three blocks and
Nicole Yakushenok recorded 19 digs for the Jacks. Humboldt lost its next math in four to Holy Names despite Yakushenok's double-double performance of 21 assists and 10 digs. McIntyre added 11 kills for the Jacks. In their final match of the classic, Humboldt lost in four to Wisconsin-Parkside despite McLaughlin's 15 kills and
Macy Thomas' 10 digs.
HUMBOLDT LEADERS: Lindsey McLaughlin leads the Jacks with her 30 kills while
Avery McIntyre has 24.
Nicole Yakushenok leads the way for Humboldt with her 69 assists while McLaughlin leads the Jacks with her seven service aces, 24 digs and six total blocks.
Macy Thomas is second on the team with her 23 digs and Yakushenok is next with 22.
CAL STATE EAST BAY: The Pioneers are 7-1 and have won their last seven straight matches since opening the season with a five-set loss to Holy Names. Cal State East Bay went 4-0 at the NorCal Kickoff this weekend defeating Dominican (3-0), Academy of Art (3-0), Fresno Pacific (3-1) and Holy Names (3-1). Lexi Pagain leads the way with 96 kills followed by Mia Jordan's 94 kills. Megan Crecelius has a team high 173 assists with Kara Green recording a team high 18 aces. Taylor Miche leads East Bay with her 109 digs and Kris Carter has a team high 25 blocks.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Cal State East Bay leads the all-time series with the Jacks 18-5. The Pioneers have won the last five straight matches between the two teams including last year's 3-0 win on October 9 in Hayward. Taylor Miche paced the Pioneers with her 16 digs.
Elyse McKinney had a team high five kills and
Gianna Giacomotto added 10 digs.
CAL STATE SAN MARCOS: The Cougars 1-6 overall after going 0-3 in Seaside in the Point Loma Invitational. They lost in four to San Francisco State and Concordia Irvine and three to Point Loma. Trinity Burr leads Cal State San Marcos with her 69 kills while Madison Turner has a team high 176 assists and 76 digs. Kiara Ridgeway has recorded a team high 26 total blocks.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Cougars leads the all-time series with Humboldt 5-2 including defeating the Jacks 3-0 on October 7 in San Marcos.
Nicole Yakushenok led Humboldt with 10 assists while
Kaitlyn Patterson added 15 digs.
UP NEXT: After Saturday's match, the Jacks will travel south for a pair of CCAA matches. Humboldt will face Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 23 in Seaside, Calif., and San Francisco State on Sept. 25 in San Francisco. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 5pm. The Jacks will return home on Sept. 29 at 7pm
