POMONA, Calif.--- Cal Poly Pomona held the Lumberjacks to just six points in the first quarter as the Broncos cruised to 75-58 victory over Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday evening at Kellogg Arena. Sarah Ahmadpour scored 17 points off the bench as the only player for the 'Jacks to score in double digits on the night. With the loss, Humboldt moves to 6-9 overall and 4-7 in CCAA play while Pomona moves to 12-3 and 9-2 in conference play.
From the beginning, the North Coast squad struggled to find any offensive energy, as the Broncos stifling zone defense gave the home team an early 19-4 advantage enroute to a 27-6 lead at the end of the first frame. The Lumberjacks did find a bit of a groove in the second quarter against their polytechnic foes, as the team was able to outscore Pomona 22-18 to head into halftime down 45-28.
A pair of
Madison Parry free throws two minutes into the third quarter cut the deficit to just eight, but it was the closest the 'Jacks would get. Pomona responded by going on a 17-2 run to effectively put the game away, as the Broncos came away with the 75-58 win in the first season matchup of the two polytechnics.
