Big Fourth Quarter Propels Jacks to Road Win

SEASIDE, Calif.-- A delayed start to the weekend due to adverse weather conditions did little to dampen the competitive spirit, as the Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team used a dominant fourth quarter to pull away from Cal State Monterey Bay 64-48 on Friday evening at the Kelp Bed. As she has all season, Madison Parry led the way with a game high 18 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Kailiana Ramos made her first start of the season and took advantage, scoring 11 points and adding two rebounds and two assists. Jayci Bayne chipped in 10 points off the bench while Jaydon Williams grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists, and tallied four steals to lead the Jacks in each of those stat categories. The win improves Humboldt to 4-3 in conference play and 6-5 overall.

GAME SUMMARY
The Jacks got on the board first after a steal from Jaydon Williams led to a Zyan Smith layup. At the 5:55 mark in the first quarter, Jayci Bayne hit a three-pointer to give Humboldt a 7-6 lead. The Jacks maintained a lead for the rest of the first quarter and went into the second quarter up 20-16. Two layups from Madison Parry and a three pointer from Kacie Slover extended the Humboldt lead to eight points with 6:50 left to play before the half. Jaydon Williams scored on a layup that gave the Jacks their largest lead of the first half and put them up 10 with 3:20 to go. Cal State Monterey Bay went on a 6-0 run to close out the half, but Humboldt still held a 33-29 advantage.

The momentum carried over for the Otters to start the third quarter, as they held the Jacks to just five points in the quarter and closed out the period on a 8-0 run. Humboldt found themselves down two points, 40-38, heading into the final quarter of play. Sara Ahmadpour hit a three-pointer that put the Jacks back up by one point just eight seconds into the period. Humboldt proceeded to go on a 7-0 run and exploded offensively for 26 total points in the fourth quarter alone. Not to mention, they held the Otters to only eight points in the fourth quarter, claiming a 64-48 victory on the road.
