ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt women's volleyball kicked off a three game road trip on Saturday with the first stop being at Sonoma State in The Wolves' Den. The 'Jacks dropped three tight sets in the conference matchup to fall with a score of 0-3 (23-25, 20-25, 22-25).
Kyra Slavik recorded 23 assists and eight digs, while
Ryleeh Tuaolo put together a five kill (.444 PCT) and five block performance. Humboldt now holds a record of 5-13 and are 2-8 in CCAA play.
The first set saw Humboldt and Sonoma battling back-and-forth in similar fashion to Wednesday's match inside Lumberjack Arena. With a tied score at 20-20, Sonoma took the next two points to go up 20-22. A kill from
Lindsey McLaughlin made it 21-22, but the Seawolves applied the pressure when they grabbed two more points to extend the lead to 21-24. An
Awelina Fakalata kill and Seawolf error put the 'Jacks within one (23-24), but set one came to a close when a Humboldt attack error gave Sonoma a set one victory (23-25).
Sonoma scored six of the first eight points to jump out to an early lead in set two. The Seawolves held the momentum and never surrendered their lead to Humboldt. The 'Jacks pulled to within two points but Sonoma was able to finish the set on top and take set two with a score of 20-25.
A 2-2 start to the third set was short lived before the Seawolves scored five straight points to secure a comfortable 7-2 lead on their home floor. As the match progressed, Humboldt went on a huge run and scored eight of nine points (six straight) to take an 11-9 advantage. Sonoma responded with the same result and scored eight of nine points to jump back in front of Humboldt 18-13. With a 24-18 lead, Sonoma State needed only one point to win the match, but Humboldt didn't go away without a fight. The 'Jacks scored four straight points to make it 24-22 advantage Sonoma thanks to kills from Fakalata, McLaughlin, and two Seawolf attack errors. Sonoma closed the door when Jaden Krist got a kill to end set three 25-22.
