THIS WEEK IN LUMBERJACK ATHLETICS

Week of October 16 - October 22
 

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Women's Volleyball will be on the road this week traveling to Cal Poly Pomona Friday Oct. 20 and Cal State San Marcos Saturday Oct. 21. Friday is set to start at 3 PM and Saturday is set to start at 5 PM. Last week Humboldt was in Lumberjack Arena Wednesday Oct. 11 and faced Sonoma State. Ryleeh Tuaolo led the team with five blocks and also had four kills for the night. Graysen Trupp tied Lindsey McLaughlin for the highest hitting percentage on the team with .273. McLaughlin recorded eight kills, 14 digs, and four block assists. Nicole Yakushenok led the assist category with 15. The Jack's took the first set from the Seawolves but were defeated in the next three with a final score 1-3 (25-22, 20-25, 17-25, 21-25). On Saturday (Oct. 14) they traveled to Sonoma State but fell in three sets (23-25, 20-25, 22-25). Even with the defeat the Jack's had some performances of note. Kyra Slavik had 23 assists, eight digs and two kills. Ryleeh Tuaolo had five kills (.444 PCT) and five blocks. While Awelina posted eight kills, nine digs and five blocks. McLaughlin had eight kills, eight digs, two blocks, and two service aces. The Jack's are currently 2-8 in CCAA play. 

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER 

Women's Soccer will be traveling to Cal State East Bay and Cal State San Marcos this weekend. On Friday Oct. 20 Humboldt will face off with the Pioneers at 4:30 PM and Sunday Oct. 22 kick off is set for 11:30 AM. This past Thursday Oct. 12 was the Pink Out game benefiting the Heather Janikowski Foundation. Humboldt faced Stanislaus State and ended in a 0-0 tie. The 'Jacks were then on the road for their rivalry match against Chico State on Sunday Oct. 15 and defeated the Wildcats in a 1-0 victory. Kylea Becker scored the game winning goal in the 26th minute against Chico, assisted by Emilia Long. Becker leads the CCAA in shots with 36. Carson Thomson-Terrel also tied her season high in saves with seven. Humboldt is currently ranked #3 in the CCAA with a 4-1-1 record. 

 

MEN'S SOCCER

Men's Soccer will go to Cal State East Bay and Cal State San Marcos this weekend. On Friday Oct. 20 Humboldt will face off with the Pioneers at 7 PM and the Cougars Sunday Oct. 22 at 2 PM. The 'Jacks hosted Stanislaus State on Thursday Oct. 12 and ended in a tie, 0-0. Adrian Gallardo recorded seven saves in goal. Sunday Oct. 15 they traveled to rivals Chico State who are currently ranked #3 in the nation. The Wildcats got ahead early scoring their first and only goal at the 5:19 mark. The 'Jacks were scoreless in the first half and not until the 75th minute life was brought back. A foul on James Haynes set up senior captain Cole Falco with a penalty kick goal. Falco converted when he sent the ball left and the Chico goalkeeper guessed incorrectly, tying the game 1-1. The game ended in a tie, 1-1. The 'Jacks are ranked #10 in the CCAA with a 1-3-2 record. 

 

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

This Saturday Oct. 21 Humboldt will be racing in the CCAA Championships in Fremont, California. Start time is set for 10 AM and they will be competing in a 6k. The 'Jacks will be racing against all other CCAA teams. Last year Stanislaus State's Kaela Dishion won the women's individual championship. Sep. 30 the team raced at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. They raced in a 6k run and placed 26th out of 36 teams. Reese Sion led the way for the 'Jacks once again with a 23rd place finish out of 364 racers, her time was 23:33.6. 

 

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Men's Cross Country will be traveling to the CCAA Championships in Fremont, California on Saturday Oct. 21. The race is set to start at 10 AM and they will be running an 8k. Last year Rory Abberton of Chico State took first in the men's race. Last Saturday Oct. 14 the 'Jacks traveled to the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, California. Hunter Phillips led the way for the 'Jacks finishing in 39th place with a time of 25:37.3. They placed 12th out of 19 teams. 

 

TRIATHLON

No. 7 Triathlon traveled to Springfield, Missouri Saturday Oct. 14 where they raced in the NCAA Heartland Triathlon Cup (West Regional Championships). The 'Jacks finished 4th across Division II opponents and freshman Eve Wendley led the team with a time of 1:18:07.33, which was good for a first place finish in her heat.
