ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt women's volleyball hosted the No. 23 ranked Cal State Los Angeles (CSULA) Golden Eagles for a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match on Thursday evening inside of Lumberjack Arena. The 'Jacks struggled to find a rhythm offensively and fell to the Golden Eagles in three sets. Humboldt dropped to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in CCAA play, while No. 23 CSULA improved to 8-7 overall and 6-1 in CCAA play. Despite only having six attack attempts,
Aurora Meneghetti was a bright spot for Humboldt as she posted three kills with zero errors for a hitting percentage of .500.
Mina Barajas led the 'Jacks defensively with 13 kills.
Match Summary
After falling behind early in the first set 4-2, the 'Jacks grabbed the momentum back and scored five straight points to gain a 7-4lead over the Golden Eagles. CSULA answered with four straight points of their own to regain the lead, 9-7. A
Lindsey McLaughlin kill and block, followed by a CSULA ball handling error tied the set at 12. The No. 23 Golden Eagles proceeded to score seven straight points and jump out to a comfortable 19-12 lead over Humboldt. The 'Jacks exchanged points to the end of the set and fell with a final of 25-18 in set one.
Once again, Humboldt claimed an early lead, as kills from
Awelina Fakalata,
Graysen Trupp and McLaughlin put the 'Jacks up 9-5.
Ryleeh Tuaolo joined in on the action as well, as she picked up a kill to hold the Humboldt lead at 12-10. However, CSULA went on to score 10 of the next 12 points and solidify a six-point cushion, 20-14 over Humboldt. Golden Eagle service errors, attack errors, and ball handling errors kept the 'Jacks close, but CSULA pulled away in set two with a final score of 25-20.
The third set saw yet another hot Humboldt start, with kills from
Kyra Slavik,
Lindsey McLaughlin,
Ryleeh Tuaolo, and
Awelina Fakalata giving the 'Jacks a 4-1 lead. A similar theme from the Golden Eagles offense went into place, as No. 23 CSULA scored six straight points to jump out to a 8-5 advantage. Kills from
Aurora Meneghetti and
Elyse McKinney brought Humboldt back to within three (15-12), but Los Angeles went on a five point run to give themselves a commanding 20-12 lead. With all of the momentum on their side, CSULA's Iane Henke finished the set off with three kills to give the Golden Eagles a 25-16 set three victory.
