SEASIDE, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer took on the No. 15 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay Otters (CSUMB) from Cardinale Stadium on Sunday. Despite a raly in the second halfwith
James Haynes scoring in the 69th minute, the Lumberjacks were unable to overcome the Otters and fell with a final score of 2-1. Humboldt now holds a record of 4-5-1 overall and 1-3-0 in CCAA play.
Both Monterey Bay goals came in the first half, as Alan Bedolla scored in the 31st minute and Nico Virga converted with less than a minute to go from deep to give the Otters a 2-0 lead at the halfway point. CSUMB out-shot Humboldt 12-2 in the first half, which kept goalkeeper
Adrian Gallardo busy as he recorded a total a six saves in the half.
Despite being out-shot, Humboldt found its way back into the match when
James Haynes's shot from just outside the box was deflected in off a failed attempt to clear in the 70th minute, resulting in his first goal as a Lumberjack. He was assisted by
Marcus Abdel-Malek. Humboldt had the No.15 ranked Otters on their toes in the final 20 minutes, but were unable to even the score and fell with a final of 2-1 to close out the weekend road trip.
