Women's Basketball Seeks to End Season on a High Note

'Jacks will close out the season this weekend in Southern California

ARCATA, Calif.--- With one weekend of play remaining in the regular season, the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks will look to close out the season with some wins as the team travels south to face No. 18 Cal State San Marcos and Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday and Saturday.

"The best message I could give the girls right now is just have self-pride and play for each other," head women's basketball coach Michelle Bento-Jackson said. "These last two games, it's not so much what we could do or could not do to our opponents. It's more about us."

Humboldt (9-15, 7-13 CCAA) will face stiff tests in San Marcos (20-4, 17-3 CCAA) and Los Angeles (17-8, 14-6 CCAA). Both teams sit second and third in the conference respectively and have already clinched berths in the upcoming CCAA tournament. Dynnah Buckner currently leads the Cougars with 12.3 points per game (ppg) while Jordan Vasquez leads San Marcos with 6.1 rebounds per game (rpg). Kelsey Forrester is second in the conference in 3-point field goals per game and Charity Gallegos sits seventh in the conference in assists with 3.1 per game. For the Golden Eagles, Nicole Flennaugh sits third in the conference in scoring with 16.3 ppg while shooting 38 percent from behind-the-arc.

Madison Parry currently sits second in the conference in scoring for the Lumberjacks with an average of 16.6 ppg. She also is fourth in rebounds (8.4 rpg), and fourth in blocked shots (1.3 bpg). Devon Lewis remains the conference's top distributor, averaging 5.5 apg while also ranking fourth in the CCAA in steals (2 spg).

Thursday's game is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. at The Sports Center in San Marcos. Saturday's finale has a tip-off of 1 p.m. at the Cal State LA Gynmasium in Los Angeles. You can follow the action for both games at ESPN 107.3 fm or watch live on the CCAA Network at www.ccaanetwork/hum.
