LOS ANGELES — Joy Hano broke a 33 year-old school record as the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks wrapped up a busy weekend of action at multiple meets across the LA region. Hano ran a personal best time of 13.96 seconds in the 100m hurdles to place eighth (third non-Division I) in the event at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific. Hano's mark broke the longstanding school record of 14.06 seconds set by Clara Trigg in 1990 and is the first time a Lumberjack has ever broken the 14 second barrier. After the weekend, she currently ranks second in the CCAA and 14th in the nation.
"It was a really big weekend for us down in LA," head track and field coach Sarah Ingram said. "We had a school record and a deep provo for Joy, plus many additional lifetime and season bests, and several moving up in CCAA rankings after this weekend."
Amelia Jackson also entered the Lumberjack record-books this weekend, the graduate student from Santa Cruz, California earned two personal bests on the weekend, running 4:49.41 in the 1500m run and 2:14.87 in the 800m run. Her 800m time currently ranks her sixth in the CCAA and is the eighth fastest time in school history. Saedy Williamson had two season best performances, running a 4:47.69 in the 1500m and debuting in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:39.47. Rosa Granados raced to a 13th place finish in the 5,000m run at the illustrious MT. SAC relays down the road in Walnut (17:56).
Isabel Perez-Zoghbi improved her mark in the 400m hurdles on Saturday, running 1:01.18 at the Bryan Clay Invite. She ranks second in the conference and 16th nationally. She also earned PR's in the 400m (58.54s) and 200m (25.85s).
Cocome McKamey earned three personal bests on the weekend in the 100m hurdles (15.89s) triple jump (10.81m / 35' 5.75") and long jump (5.51m 18' 1"). Her mark in the long jump tied Hano for fifth all time in school history. Fellow heptathlete Grace Kasberger also had a career best in the 100m hurdles (15.5s).
On the men's side, Aris Valerio ran in the competitive invite section at the Bryan Clay Invite, where he ran 1:51.7. Carson Smith earned a career best in the 1500m (3:54.44) alongside teammates Ricardo Torres (3:54.48) and James Woolery (3:56.76). At the Beach Invitational, Jaxon Leduc earned a personal best in the 1500m with a 4:01.76.
In the throws, Terrence Allen and Robert Cardenas both improved their marks in the shotput, with Allen improving his career best to 13.51m / 44' 4" while Cardenas improved his to 13.81m / 45' 3.75". Cardenas also had a personal best in the discus (42.04m / 137' 11").
Harry Singh earned two PR's in the 100m (11.00s) and 200m (22.28s) while Ryan Castro earned a season best in the 100m (11.03s). Grant Van Emmerik ran 49.0 in the 400m dash.
