EUREKA, Calif. — Some rainy conditions did little to dampen the day's enthusiasm, as Cal Poly Humboldt's men's and women's rowing squads completed a clean sweep of Saturday's race events at the Blue Heron Regatta at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.
The North Coast squad kicked things off with a victory in the women's varsity 8 race, defeating Division I foe Saint Mary's by three seconds. From there the men followed suit with a 40 second victory over Chico State's club team in the men's varsity 8 race.
In the women's varsity 4 race, Humboldt earned the top three spots in the women's race, with the women's varsity "A" team claiming victory by nearly 16 seconds. The Humboldt novice 4 squad, who placed third, was nearly nine seconds ahead of fourth place Saint Mary's to complete a 1-2-3 finish for the Lumberjacks. In the men's varsity 4 race, which was shortened due to inclement weather at the start line, the Lumberjacks picked up an almost six second victory over the Wildcats of Chico State to complete a clean sweep on the day.
The regatta, which also functioned as an alumni event and an opportunity to christen the men's team's move into the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, also held exhibition pairs/doubles races. The Green & Gold finished first, second, third and fourth in the women's 2 and in the women's pair/doubles races, while the men finished first in the men's pair/doubles race.
