2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships Results
PUEBLO, Colo. -- Freshman standout
Isabel Perez-Zoghbi competed at her first NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Thursday from the CSU Pueblo Thunderbowl in Colorado. Slated in lane two of the first heat of the 400 meter hurdles, Perez-Zoghbi finished with a time of 1:02.04. She finished an impressive freshman campaign with a 6th place finish in her heat, which resulted in 19th overall for the event. Perez-Zoghbi was ranked No.19 in the 400m hurdles coming into the national championship meet. In order to qualify for Saturday's Finals, Perez-Zoghbi had to finish in the Top-9 of the event. With three heats of prelims, the Top-2 from each heat automatically qualified and the next three fastest times earned a spot in Saturday's Finals.
"We're so proud of Isabel, she's had an incredibly successful freshman season," stated head coach
Sarah Ingram. "Racing her first NCAA championship so early in her college career gives her great perspective for the next few years, and reinforces that competitive fire that'll keep burning in her until next season. She's already excited for her next racing opportunity!"
Perez-Zoghbi did qualify for the under 20 USA Nationals at the University of Oregon this summer. The dates are set for July 6-9 at Hayward Field.
"I am beyond proud of Isabel," said assistant coach
Kate Eilers. "Today she executed a beautiful race! It wasn't the time she wanted, but it was exceptionally well run. She truly competed and really went for it and that's all we can ask for when an athlete gets to a National Championship. She earned an experience the majority of athletes will never get. She had a stellar freshman season displaying not only a true passion for her sport and event but a relentless dedication to the process. She did everything right, and it earned herself a place at the National Championship. I just hope that she is as proud of herself as we are of her!"
