ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt hosted Sonoma State for a non-conference match on Saturday at College Creek Field that saw a battle to the final second. Down 1-0, the Jacks scored in the 89
th minute on a
Marco Manzo goal that was assisted by
Antonio Sandoval to even the match 1-1. Humboldt played to a 1-1 draw with Sonoma State and wrapped up their non-conference play with a record of 3-2-1. Although Sonoma State is a part of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), each team across the conference played their travel partner to wrap up the non-conference regular season over the weekend.
Match Summary
In the first half, Sonoma outpaced Humboldt on the offensive side of the ball, outshooting the Jacks 9-2. The Seawolves converted first in the 38
th minute when Diego Angelina De La Cruz scored on a Patrick Neill assist to put Sonoma up 1-0 at the half.
The Jacks answered the call in the second half, as they out shot Sonoma 7-3 and had five corner kicks in comparison to the Seawolves' one. As time progressed, a hard fought back-and-forth match saw eight yellow cards be assessed before Humboldt converted with just over a minute left in regulation.
Marco Manzo found the back of the net on an assist from
Antonio Sandoval to tie the match 1-1 and set up a thrilling late comeback, earning a draw versus Sonoma State at home.
