ARCATA, Calif. -- On Thursday evening, Cal Poly Humboldt returned home to Lumberjack Arena after a five game road trip. The Jacks hosted Cal State Monterey Bay and picked up their second straight win after defeating the Otters in the final seconds with a score of 64-63.
Emilia Long led the team with 19 points, five rebounds, five assists, and clutched the game-winning free throw with two seconds remaining.
A strong start for the Otters saw them lead by as many as six points in the first quarter over the Jacks. Six straight points from
Sara Ahmadpour to close out the first quarter cut the deficit to two points, 16-18, headed into the second quarter.
After converting a layup to open the second half,
Emilia Long tied the game at 18 a piece. Monterey Bay regained their lead following a 9-0 run to go up 27-18 over Humboldt. The Jacks chipped away and just before the half made it a one possession game when
Marley Johnson hit a three-pointer with 27 seconds remaining. At the half, the Otters held the advantage over Humboldt 36-33.
The Jacks came out hot in the third quarter and took back the lead after going on a 12-3 run that began at the 8:06 mark and was led by Long and Johnson. However, Monterey Bay closed out the quarter with a pair of free throws and three-pointer to tie the game at 51 with 10 minutes left to play.
An evenly matched fourth quarter saw the game tied at 63 with less than 30 seconds in regulation.
Emilia Long drove to the rim and was fouled on her shot attempt with two seconds left. Long made one-of-two free throws to help the Jacks slide past the Otters with a final score of 64-63.

- Emilia Long posted 19 points, five rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block
- Madison Rubino was just shy of a double-double, as she recorded 10 points and eight rebounds
- Marley Johnson continued her sharp-shooting, as she shot 66.7% from three-point range and totaled 14 points. She also had six rebounds
- Sara Ahmadpour scored 11 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block
- Monterey Bay had more points off turnovers (15-13), second chance points (15-5), and bench points (19-2), but Humboldt had more points in the paint (30-16) and fast break points (8-2)
- Monterey Bay out-rebounded Humboldt 33-26
- Humboldt shot 50% from the field for the game in comparison to Monterey's 31.7%
