Jacks Handle Warriors For Third Straight Win

ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt aimed to keep their winning streak alive on Saturday evening as they hosted the Stanislaus State Warriors from Lumberjack Arena. The Jacks controlled the entire game and didn't surrender the lead once to the Warriors, resulting in their third straight win and a final score of 61-52. It was the first time since January 27th of last season that Humboldt led from start to finish and never surrendered the lead. Madison Rubino recorded her first double-double of the season, notching 17 points on 47% shooting and 13 rebounds, both of which are season-highs. She also had two blocks and two steals defensively.

The Lumberjacks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead over the Warriors after two three-pointers from Marley Johnson and a basket from Madison Rubino. Up by as many as 10 points, Humboldt continued to control the momentum throughout the first quarter as they shot 57.1% from the field. However, Stanislaus went on a 7-0 run to close out the first quarter ad cut the Lumberjack lead to three points, 18-15.

Humboldt maintained their lead throughout the second quarter and paced the Warrior offense, as each team totaled nine points. Marley Johnson recorded five points and Emilia Long was right behind with four points to bring Humboldt into the half up 27-24 over Stanislaus.

Madison Rubino scored eight of Humboldt's 14 points in the third quarter and helped hold the Lumberjack lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play up 41-37.

Stanislaus cut their deficit to two points to open up the fourth quarter but the Jacks quickly went on a 6-0 run to go up eight points with six minutes left to play. With two minutes remaining, the Warriors attempted to play the "foul game" and send Humboldt to the free-throw line in hopes to save time and that the Jacks would miss their shots. Humboldt made 10 of their 14 attempts and sealed their third straight win with a final score of 61-52. The Jacks now are tied for fourth place in the CCAA standings.
