Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Drew Gwerder

Jacks Fall to San Marcos on Saturday

ARCATA, Calif. -- Coming off their first CCAA win on Thursday, Cal Poly Humboldt looked to build on their momentum and make it two in a row as they hosted Cal State San Marcos on Saturday night in Lumberjack Arena. The Cougars came in and shot 56 percent from the field for the game and 65 percent in the second half alone, leading to an 80-65 victory over the Lumberjacks.

The first half began with a 13-0 start for San Marcos, as they jumped out to a commanding lead. Kareem Clark got the Jacks on the board nearly six minutes into the game. Back-to-back threes from freshman guard Brandon Bento-Jackson cut the Cougar lead to single digits. A short scoring draught for San Marcos allowed Humboldt to creep back into the game, as a three from Liyongwei Xie made it a two-point game, 17-15. The Cougars maintained the lead for the remainder of the first half despite Humboldt creating some momentum and climbing back into the game. San Marcos led 35-28 at the half.

The second half was all San Marcos, as they shot 65.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from long distance, leading by as many as 21 points at one point. Four quick points from Humboldt in the final minute cut the lead to 15, but it wasn't enough to overcome the impressive shooting from San Marcos. Humboldt fell with a final score of 80-65.
