SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team took on the San Francisco State Gators on Saturday afternoon from the Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza. The Lumberjacks aimed to end their road trip on a high note and they did just that, earning a 65-33 victory over San Francisco State. The 32-point margin of victory is the largest since January 28
th of last season, when the Jacks defeated Cal State Monterey Bay at home 70-37. The 33 points scored by the Gators is also the lowest point total Humboldt has allowed since 2012.
Marley Johnson scored a season-high 15 points on 71.4% shooting from three-point range and also grabbed six rebounds.
Johnson got the Jacks on the board first after sinking a three-pointer on their first offensive possession. Humboldt would go on to maintain their lead for the remainder of the game.
Emilia Long went on to score the final seven Lumberjack points in the first quarter, putting Humboldt up 13-7.
A slow start to the second quarter didn't see a successful conversion from Humboldt until the 4:40 mark when
Sara Ahmadpour made a shot from beyond the arc that was assisted by
Marley Johnson. Back-to-back threes from Johnson and
Kacie Slover pushed the Lumberjack lead to double digits and the team went on a 22-5 run to close the half up 19 points, 31-12. Humboldt did not allow the Gators to score in double digits in either quarter of the first half.
The third quarter saw Humboldt shoot 60% (9-15 FG) from the field and 50% from three-point range. The Jacks went on a 23-8 run and extended their lead to 32 points after the huge quarter was capped off with a
Kacie Slover layup.
Up 54-22 to start the fourth quarter, Humboldt maintained their 32-point lead and broke even with Gators, as each time scored 11 points in final 10 minutes of play. The Jacks controlled the entire game and earned a 65-33 victory to close the road trip out with a win.
Lumberjack Low-Down
- Marley Johnson totaled a season-high 15 points and shot an impressive 71.4% from three-point range
- Emilia Long led all players with 17 points. She also collected five rebounds, four assists, four steals, and a block
- Kacie Slover posted 10 points on 50% shooting to go along with seven rebounds
- Sara Ahmadpour and Madison Rubino recorded a team-high eight rebounds
- All nine players that entered the game scored at least one point
- Humboldt shot 39% for the game and 47.1% from three-point range compared to San Francisco State's 21.8% from the field and 10.5% from three-point range
- The Jacks had more points off turnovers (13-7), second chance points (17-8), bench points (9-4), points in the paint (30-10), and fast break points (12-3)
- Humboldt out-rebounded SFSU 56-28
- Despite having more steals than the Gators (9-4) and holding them to just 33 points total, the Jacks lost the turnover battle and committed 20 turnovers compared to SFSU's 14

After five straight games on the road, Humboldt will return home to Lumberjack Arena next week to play a pair of CCAA games against Cal State Monterey Bay (3-9, 1-6 CCAA) on Thursday evening and Stanislaus State (10-7, 5-2 CCAA) on Saturday evening. Both games with have a 5:30 PM tip-off. Saturday's game will be Pediatric Cancer Night and the team encourages everyone to wear yellow to the game.
