Humboldt Falls Short Against No. 8 Chico State, 2-1

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer put up a valiant effort against nationally-ranked No. 8 Chico State, but ultimately came up short, falling 2-1 on Sunday at College Creek Field. The match featured a determined Lumberjacks squad that found the back of the net in the second half to close the gap, but the Wildcats held on for the win.

Match Summary
Chico State (9-2-2, 3-1-2 CCAA) struck early, taking the lead in the 11th minute when Carson Zarate netted his second goal of the season, assisted by Bryan Manriquez. The Wildcats' relentless attack continued into the second half, with Miles Rice doubling the lead in the 56th minute. Rice's eighth goal of the season came off a setup from Justin Ricketts.

Cal Poly Humboldt (2-7-4, 1-4-2 CCAA) responded just minutes later. In the 59th minute, Nathan Murff found the net for his second goal of the season, with assists from Marcus Abdel-Malek and Paris Ruiz. Despite the momentum shift, the Lumberjacks were unable to find the equalizer.

Key Performances

- Carson Zarate and Miles Rice (Chico State) – Each scored a goal, with Rice notching his eighth of the season.
- Adrian Gallardo (Humboldt) – Recorded six saves, keeping the 'Jacks in contention.

Humboldt's defense worked hard against a formidable Chico State offense that registered 11 shots, eight of which were on target. The Lumberjacks had eight shots, two on goal, and put Chico's defense under pressure, especially after cutting the deficit in half. However, the Wildcats' defense stood firm in the final minutes.
