Humboldt Falls to No. 4 Seed Stanislaus State in Tough CCAA Tournament Quarterfinal Rematch

TURLOCK, Calif. — In a physical battle reminiscent of last year's CCAA Tournament quarterfinal matchup, Cal Poly Humboldt's fifth seeded women's soccer team saw their postseason run come to a close with a 1-0 loss to No. 4 seed Stanislaus State at Warrior Stadium. The result caps off an impressive season for the Lumberjacks (8-8-3, 5-4-2), marking their third consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance.

The game's lone goal came in the 43rd minute, with Stanislaus State's Makeila Yancey finding the net on a critical play that would ultimately decide the match. Despite an increase in offensive pressure from the Lumberjacks in the second half—where they recorded seven of their eight total shots—Humboldt was unable to find the equalizer.

Both teams brought intensity to the field, with fouls tallying to a total of 19. Humboldt's Emma McChristie received a caution in the 57th minute, with Stanislaus State's Kaley Miller seeing yellow in the 70th minute. The match marked the end of the road for a determined Humboldt squad that's proven itself a postseason contender, having now reached the CCAA Tournament for three consecutive years.

Despite the season-ending result, Cal Poly Humboldt's defense displayed resilience, with four saves against a persistent Stanislaus State offense that tallied 19 shots, five on target. The Lumberjacks concluded the season with a balanced 8-8-3 record and a firm position among the conference's top contenders.

"I want to congratulate Stanislaus on advancing, they played well today and capitalized on their scoring chance," stated head coach Grant Landy. "I have nothing but good thoughts about how this team battled all year. Our second half was a great response and we got close on scoring the equalizing goal. Our outgoing seniors will be missed terribly. They helped put our program on the map and made Humboldt women's soccer history with three straight trips to conference tournament, as well as a semifinal appearance in 2023. They are amazing soccer players but they are even more amazing people. I was blessed to be able to coach them and see them grow in our program. So proud of all they have achieved while at Cal Poly Humboldt."
