AZUSA, Calif. – Kendall Pickford delivered a season-high performance for the Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team, recording her first double-double of the year with 15 points and 11 rebounds. However, the Jacks were unable to overcome Azusa Pacific's offensive efficiency, falling 80-52 at the Felix Event Center on Tuesday night.
Pickford led the Jacks (1-3) in scoring and rebounding, going 5-for-12 from the field, including five three-pointers. Her efforts highlighted a challenging contest against the undefeated Cougars (5-0), who showcased their depth and shooting prowess throughout the evening.
Azusa Pacific took early control, shooting 62.5% in the first quarter to establish a 24-17 lead. Despite Pickford's strong start and a competitive first quarter, the Cougars' defensive pressure and ability to convert turnovers into points proved decisive.
The Jacks struggled offensively in the second quarter, shooting just 14.3% from the field, allowing Azusa Pacific to extend their advantage to 35-25 at halftime. The Cougars' momentum continued in the third quarter, where they outscored Humboldt 30-16, capitalizing on 70.6% shooting from the field to seal the game.
Humboldt saw contributions from
Dylan Lovett, who added seven points and four rebounds, and
Jadis Watson, who chipped in six points off the bench. Despite these efforts, the Jacks were outscored 40-16 in the paint and 25-17 in points off turnovers.
Kelly Heimburger led Azusa Pacific with a dominant 26-point performance on 9-of-15 shooting, including four three-pointers. Rachel Roderick and Sabrina Belquist contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench for the Cougars.
The Jacks will return home to prepare for their home opener next week against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, November 23 at 5:30 PM in Lumberjack Arena.
