Humboldt Wrestling Takes 7th at Roadrunner Open

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt competed in the Roadrunner Open hosted by Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, finishing seventh out of 10 collegiate teams. The Lumberjacks showcased resilience, with notable performances from Isaiah Miller and Josh Neiwert, who secured top-five finishes in their respective weight classes.

125 Pounds
Isaiah Miller led Humboldt's efforts with a fifth-place finish, earning 6.0 team points. Miller opened his day with a 10-7 decision over Elijah Valencia (Menlo) and rebounded in the consolation bracket with two dominant tech falls, including an 18-1 victory over Gage Singleton (Oregon State). He concluded his run by claiming fifth via forfeit. Julian Albang added depth to the Lumberjacks' efforts in the 125-pound bracket, recording wins by forfeit and injury default.

133 Pounds
Josh Neiwert delivered a strong showing, placing fourth and contributing 7.0 team points. He opened with a commanding major decision over Tristen Lorraine (Unattached) and a tech fall over Robert Villegas (Vanguard). Neiwert advanced deep into the bracket with key victories in the consolation rounds, including a 2-0 decision over Koufax Christensen (Oklahoma Wrestling) and an 8-5 decision over Richard Murrilo (California Baptist).

141 Pounds
Nathan Aguilar earned a sixth-place finish, tallying 4.0 team points. Aguilar advanced to the semifinals with a pair of wins, including a 5-0 decision over Luke Villaluz (Cal Poly). He finished the day with competitive showings in both the consolation and placement matches.

165 Pounds
Cole Zoller also claimed a sixth-place finish, scoring 4.0 team points. Zoller began his day with a fall over Jesus Navarrete (Unattached) and a thrilling 4-1 tie-breaker victory over Evan Manzo (CSU Bakersfield) in the quarterfinals.

Other Highlights
Several other Lumberjacks secured individual victories throughout the tournament. Jayson Victoria impressed in the 149-pound bracket with three consecutive wins in the consolation rounds, highlighted by a 13-2 major decision over Devon Wells (Menlo). Ryder Dearborn (165) notched a pin over Gabriel Luna (RWC) in just 54 seconds, while Gil Mossburg (157) picked up a decision over Timothy Cowan (California Baptist).

Despite facing tough competition from a field featuring strong Division I programs, the Lumberjacks competed at a high level and aim to continue to improve as the season progresses.

Cal Poly Humboldt will continue its season with its sights set on Southern Oregon University. The 'Jacks will travel to Ashland, Oregon on Friday, December 6 to take on the Raiders at 7:30 PM in Riehm Arena.
