ATHERTON, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt wrestling showcased strong performances at the Menlo Invite on Saturday, with several athletes securing top-six finishes across various weight classes.
At 125 pounds,
Caleb Tatad earned a 6th-place finish with a solid showing, scoring 6.0 team points. After a bye in the opening round, Tatad won his quarterfinal matchup against Will VomBaur of Utah Valley with a close 8-6 decision. Tatad fell in the semifinal and consolation semifinal but secured key points for Humboldt.
Isaiah Miller, also competing at 125 pounds, added 2.5 points for Humboldt. After a tough opening match against Yusief Lillie (Utah Valley), Miller rallied in the consolation round with a quick pin against Diego McCormick from Fontbonne University (2:34). However, his run ended with a fall in the second consolation round.
Josh Neiwert delivered a standout performance in the 133-pound division, claiming 3rd place and contributing 14.5 team points. Neiwert battled through an intense bracket, winning his opening match against Anthony Lucio (Cal Poly SLO) by a narrow 7-6 decision and advancing to the semifinals. After a decision loss in the semifinals, he regrouped to win the third-place match over Noah Messman (Menlo College) in a 4-2 decision.
Another strong 3rd-place showing came from
Nathan Aguilar in the 141-pound category, who scored 13.0 team points. Aguilar opened his day with a technical fall over Henok Tsegaye (Skyline College) before eventually clinching 3rd place with a hard-fought 9-8 victory over Jaxtyn Frost (Cal State Bakersfield).
In the 149-pound bracket,
Jayson Victoria recorded 3.0 team points, with a notable 6-3 decision over Devin Shimabukuro (Menlo College) in his first match. Victoria's efforts were ultimately cut short after a close consolation-round decision loss.
At 165 pounds, Cole Zoeller secured 6th place and scored 5.0 points. Zoeller's tournament featured a 9-5 decision victory over Nathan Vasquez (Unattached) in the quarterfinals before he faced tough losses in the semifinals and consolation rounds.
In the 197-pound bracket, Abdurrahmann Garner added 4.0 team points with a 6th-place finish. Garner displayed resilience, pushing his quarterfinal match to a tiebreaker against Stanford's Cole Han-Lindemyer.
Liam Clark rounded out Humboldt's top finishes with a 6th-place result at 285 pounds, contributing 6.0 points. Clark's day included a close 2-1 decision win over Angel Blanco (Skyline College) in the quarterfinals.
Cal Poly Humboldt's wrestling team displayed grit abd captured key wins in a highly competitive field. The Lumberjacks look forward to building on this momentum in upcoming meets as they continue their season.

Cal Poly Humboldt will travel to Cal State Bakersfield and compete in the Roadrunner Open on Sunday, November 24 to compete in the all-day event at the
Icardo Center.
