Humboldt Falls to Chico in Saturday Matinee

CHICO, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt's women's basketball team faced a tough challenge against Chico State on Saturday afternoon at Art Acker Gym, falling 77-54 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup.

The Lumberjacks (3-6, 2-2 CCAA) opened the game trading baskets with Chico State (8-1, 4-0 CCAA), but the Wildcats set the tone early and surged to a 27-14 lead after the first quarter. Humboldt struggled to find rhythm offensively, shooting 31.1% from the field and 41.2% from beyond the arc for the game, while the Wildcats maintained efficient shooting at 52.5%, including 40% from three-point range.

Key Performances

  • Dylan Lovett led the way for Humboldt with 12 points, knocking down two three-pointers and grabbing three rebounds.
  • Jadis Watson contributed 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, along with three rebounds and two assists.
  • Kaiija Lesane added nine points, four rebounds, and a team-high four assists.

Humboldt battled to close the gap throughout the game but struggled to contain Chico State's inside presence and transition play. The Wildcats outscored the Lumberjacks 40-22 in the paint and 19-4 on fast breaks.

For Chico State, Makenzi Laporte led all scorers with 18 points, including three triples, while Jordan Allred added 17 points and seven assists. Meadow Aragon delivered a near-perfect performance, finishing with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting.

Team Summary

Humboldt showed resilience despite trailing early, with strong efforts from their bench and key moments from Kendall Pickford and Riley Sanz, who combined for six points and six rebounds. The Lumberjacks' defense forced 17 turnovers and collected 10 steals, but Chico State's balanced attack and rebounding edge (36-25) proved decisive.
