Humboldt Gets Revenge Against East Bay, Jump to Fourth in Standings

ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt closed out their home stand on a high note after earning a win on Saturday evening over Cal State East Bay with a final score of 67-55. Emilia Long led the 'Jacks with her career-high 24 points on 61.5 percent shooting, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.

"Tonight was a great team win," said head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "I am incredibly proud of our defensive effort and defensive execution throughout the game. Marley Johnson got us off to a great start with her three-consecutive threes and it initiated her teammates to really get going. We had four players in double figures and we are a much better team when we have that type of balance in our scoring."

Humboldt jumped out to a 22-7 start in the first quarter to grab a commanding lead after shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc that was led by Marley Johnson. A slow second quarter saw both teams finish in single-digits. At the half, Humboldt led East Bay 26-18.

Throughout the second half, Humboldt controlled the game. The 'Jacks matched their 22 points in the first quarter by scoring another 22 points in the third quarter. Humboldt led by as many as 23 points with just 1:47 to go. The Pioneers went on a run to close out the game, but the second half consistency Humboldt portrayed proved tough and Humboldt held on for a 67-55 win.

Bento-Jackson stated, "I'm also proud of our bench tonight. Everyone came in and gave great minutes on both ends of the floor. After Thursday's game, we had a conversation about clock management down the stretch and the team really responded and did a terrific job in this area tonight."
