GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks (3-2, 0-0 CCAA) were unable to find their rhythm against No. 15 Colorado Mesa (4-1, 0-0 RMAC) on Thursday evening, falling in straight sets at Brownson Arena. The Mavericks took the match 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-16) in front of a crowd of 523 fans.
Match Highlights
Cal Poly Humboldt struggled to gain momentum, with a negative hitting percentage in the first set (-0.077) and finishing the match with a .036 hitting percentage overall. The Lumberjacks were led by
Awelina Fakalata, who contributed six kills, while
Graysen Trupp added five kills and three blocks.
Madyn Cervellera also chipped in with four kills.
Despite the challenging evening, Trupp registered the Lumberjacks' only service ace and shared the team lead in blocks with three.
Kyra Slavik provided 11 assists, while
Sophia Spoja was a standout defensively with eight digs, followed closely by Slavik with seven and
Mackenzie Gilchrist with six.
On the other side of the net, the nationally ranked Mavericks showcased their attacking prowess, hitting .333 as a team. Sydney Leffler led Colorado Mesa with a match-high 15 kills, while Sierra Hunt and Nicole Martin added 10 and 8 kills, respectively. Sabrina VanDeList controlled the offense with 36 assists and contributed two service aces and eight digs.
Looking Ahead
The Lumberjacks will look ahead to Friday, as they play two matches at the Maverick Fall Classic in Grand Junction, Colorado. On the schedule first is Minnesota State University Moorhead (3-2, 0-0 NSIC) at 11:00 AM (12:00 PM MT) and then Angelo State University (4-1, 0-0 LSC) at 4:00 PM (5:00 PM MT).
