Humboldt Falls to MSU Moorhead on Friday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Cal Poly Humboldt faced a tough loss in Friday's opening match at the Brownson Arena in Grand Junction, falling in straight sets to MSU Moorhead (4-2, 0-0 NSIC). The Lumberjacks (3-3, 0-0 CCAA) fought hard but couldn't overcome the Dragons' efficient attack, dropping the match 25-21, 25-11, 25-20.

Set Breakdown
The first set was tightly contested, with Cal Poly Humboldt posting 10 kills but also committing 11 errors, resulting in a hitting percentage of -0.026. Despite this, the Lumberjacks stayed within striking distance, dropping the set 25-21. MSU Moorhead improved as the match progressed, hitting .391 in the second set while Humboldt struggled to find their rhythm, managing only 8 kills with a hitting percentage of .000 in a lopsided 25-11 set loss. In the third set, Humboldt's offense showed signs of life but the Dragons capitalized on their blocking and serving advantages to close out the set and match 25-20.

Match Leaders
Cal Poly Humboldt was led by Graysen Trupp, who delivered a match-high 12 kills and added a block. Kyra Slavik contributed 18 assists and 7 digs, while Awelina Fakalata led the defensive efforts with 12 digs and chipped in 4 kills and 2 aces. Aurora Meneghetti was a presence at the net, notching 4 blocks.

MSU Moorhead showcased a balanced offensive attack, with Brielle Riess leading the way with 9 kills, while Emily Ramsay and Abby Thompson added 8 and 7 kills, respectively. Thompson also made her presence felt on defense, recording a match-high 5 blocks to go along with her 4 service aces. Setter Annalise Wilson dished out 13 assists, while libero Kiara Olesch anchored the backline with 12 digs.
