FORT WORTH, Tex. -- In a remarkable showing, three Cal Poly Humboldt triathletes competed fiercely against some of the top Division I athletes in the country at the Battle in the Fort Sprint Triathlon, hosted by Texas Christian University. Leading the way for Humboldt was
Natalie Mitchell, who finished as the highest-placed Division II athlete in the competition, underscoring the team's ability to hold their own against elite competitors from larger programs.
Mitchell finished 22nd overall with a time of 1:05:49, placing her directly in the mix with top triathletes from powerhouse programs like Arizona State and the University of Arizona. Her splits included a 10:16 swim, a quick transition of 1:12, followed by a 33:50 bike segment and a seamless transition to the run in just 24 seconds. Mitchell then powered through the final run with a time of 20:05, securing her position as the top Division II finisher.
Teammates
Poppy Edge and
Farrah Tyler also delivered strong performances against the nation's best. Edge finished 51st with a time of 1:12:23. Her splits were equally impressive, including a 10:22 swim, a 1:25 transition, a 37:10 bike leg, and a final run of 22:43 after a quick 42-second transition.
Farrah Tyler completed the race in 54th place with a time of 1:13:18. She clocked a 12:15 swim, transitioned to the bike in 1:17, and completed the bike portion in 38:09. Her final run time of 21:06, after a 29-second transition, capped off her effort.
The Humboldt triathletes not only competed but thrived alongside some of the top Division I talent in the country. The experience gained from racing in such an elite field will serve as a valuable stepping stone as they continue to push forward in the season.
