ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team put up a spirited effort but fell short in a 66-61 loss to Cal Poly Pomona in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Saturday afternoon at Lumberjack Arena.
The Lumberjacks (5-9, 4-4 CCAA) shot an impressive 42.0% from the field and 44.4% from beyond the arc but were unable to overcome a balanced and efficient offensive showing by the Broncos (12-2, 7-1 CCAA), who extended their winning streak to three games.
Key Performances
- Kyori Lloyd paced the Lumberjacks with 11 points, nine rebounds, and one assist. Lloyd showcased her versatility, going 3-for-5 from three-point range.
- Dailani Richardson provided a spark off the bench, contributing a team-high 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting, along with three assists.
- Marley Johnson was efficient from deep, hitting 3-of-5 three-point attempts and finishing with nine points and two steals.
For Cal Poly Pomona, Sydney Nelson led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting, adding seven rebounds and three steals. Kalaya Buggs contributed 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Breanne Ha chipped in 15 points, including a pair of three-pointers.
Game Summary
The Lumberjacks opened the game strong, outscoring the Broncos 15-11 in the first quarter, fueled by sharp three-point shooting. However, Pomona responded in the second quarter, outscoring Humboldt 17-12 to take a one-point lead into halftime.
The third quarter was evenly matched, with both teams scoring 18 points. Humboldt knocked down five three-pointers in the period, including two from Johnson, keeping the game within reach.
In the fourth quarter, the Broncos capitalized on their trips to the free-throw line, hitting 10-of-12 attempts. Despite a late push by the Lumberjacks, Pomona's defense held firm to secure the victory.
