PUEBLO, Colo. – Fresh off a huge victory over No. 16 Colorado School of Mines the night before, the Cal Poly Humboldt wrestling team faced a challenging test against a tough CSU-Pueblo squad in their home opener on Saturday night. Despite a strong start, the Lumberjacks fell 30-17 to the Thunderwolves in an intense dual.
Humboldt opened with a statement at 125 pounds, as Isaiah Miller dominated his opponent, Rhys Sellers, with a 12-4 major decision to set the tone early. The momentum continued at 141 pounds when Nathan Aguilar electrified the crowd with a pin at just 1:38 over Aleksander Gunn, giving the 'Jacks a 10-6 team lead after three matches.
At 149 pounds, Jayson Victoria extended the lead, cruising to an 11-0 major decision over Cole Bennett. Gil Mossburg then added to Humboldt's advantage with a hard-fought 4-1 decision over Alfredo Mendoza at 157 pounds.
Despite the early dominance, CSU-Pueblo stormed back with a series of victories in the upper weight classes, including a technical fall by Solomon Arnds-Volcin at 174 pounds and back-to-back pins from Donn Greer (184 pounds) and Remington Winmill (197 pounds).
In the heavyweight showdown, Carson Hatch battled valiantly but fell short in an 11-2 major decision to Henry Sturn, sealing the dual for CSU-Pueblo.
