Cal Poly Humboldt Falls to No. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills, Johnson Notches Season High

ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team faced a formidable challenge on Saturday afternoon, falling to undefeated and nationally ranked No. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills, 93-59, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup at Lumberjack Arena.

The Toros (20-0, 12-0 CCAA) demonstrated why they sit atop the national rankings, delivering a balanced offensive effort with four players scoring in double figures. Cristina Jones led the way with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Milan Tuttle and Teagan Thurman each added 12 points off the bench.

Despite the final score, the Lumberjacks (5-13, 4-8 CCAA) showed resilience, especially in the fourth quarter, where they outscored the Toros 24-16 behind sharp three-point shooting and ended the game on a 11-0 run. Marley Johnson paced the Humboldt offense with a season-high 17 points, including five three-pointers, while Dylan Lovett contributed 13 points, going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.

The Toros jumped out to an early lead, using a 24-point first quarter to set the tone. Their defense pressured the Lumberjacks into 33 turnovers, which they converted into 45 points. Cal State Dominguez Hills also dominated in the paint, scoring 44 points inside compared to Humboldt's 18.

Humboldt found its rhythm in the fourth quarter, connecting on six of ten three-point attempts and shooting a game-high 61.5% from the field during the final frame. Riley Sanz added 11 points, going 2-for-2 from long range, while Shira Hagag provided energy off the bench with 2 points and 3 rebounds.
