ATHERTON, Calif. — The Cal Poly Humboldt wrestling team capped an impressive outing at the inaugural MPSF Wrestling Championships on Sunday, placing third among four teams with a total of 108.0 points. The Lumberjacks were led by standout performances from Jayson Victoria (149 lbs) and Carson Hatch (285 lbs), who each earned individual conference titles in their respective weight classes.

Victoria, now 11-7 on the season, dominated his bracket, earning a technical fall in the semifinals and securing the championship with a 10-3 decision over Noah Elliott of Menlo College. Hatch (7-4) claimed his title in the heavyweight division with a series of commanding victories, including a pin in the quarterfinals and a 4-1 decision over Laith Gilmore of San Francisco State in the finals.

In addition to the champions, several Lumberjacks earned podium finishes:

  • Isaiah Miller (125 lbs) placed second, highlighted by a first-round pin in his semifinal match.
  • Cole Zoller (165 lbs) also took second, earning a technical fall victory en route to the finals.
  • Nathan Aguilar (141 lbs) and Gil Mossburg (157 lbs) each claimed third-place finishes, showcasing resilience in the consolation bracket.
  • Diego Robles (174 lbs) added a third-place result, contributing to Humboldt's team total.

The Lumberjacks faced stiff competition, finishing behind host Menlo College (142.5) and San Francisco State (140.5), but ahead of Vanguard University (71.0).

"This was a good showing for our program," said head coach Lennie Zalesky. "Jayson and Carson's titles are a testament to their hard work and focus. Our team's performance overall shows the growth and potential we have as we continue to build in this competitive conference."

More Highlights:

  • Isaiah Miller (125 lbs): Recorded a semifinal pin in 4:18, finishing as runner-up after a narrow 7-6 decision in the finals.
  • Jayson Victoria (149 lbs): Scored 15.5 team points, earning a dominant technical fall in the semis and sealing the championship with a decisive 10-3 win.
