ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball put up a strong fight in Lumberjack Arena on Saturday afternoon, but fell in straight sets (21-25, 18-25, 13-25) to Cal State San Bernardino in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.
The Lumberjacks (1-15, 1-7 CCAA) challenged one of the league's top programs early, trading points throughout the opening set before the Coyotes (11-4, 6-2 CCAA) used a late run to secure the 25-21 win. San Bernardino held on to sets two and three to complete the match in straight sets.
Graysen Trupp led Humboldt with eight kills while adding a block, and freshman Rahni Greene and sophomore Isabella Hartwig chipped in five kills apiece. Setter Brielle Wilson paced the offense with 16 assists, while Elizabeth Jade Andrade anchored the defense with a match-high 20 digs, her second straight 20-plus dig performance. Emma Fauth contributed seven digs and two service aces.
As a team, Humboldt tallied 29 kills, 20 assists, and 41 digs, while hitting .103 on the afternoon.
CSUSB was led by Savannah Hoffmann and Kacie Pedersen, who each finished with 12 kills. Setter McKenna Edwards recorded 30 assists and three service aces, while Jordan Cherniss and Pedersen each tallied 10 digs.
The Lumberjacks will close out their four-match homestand next weekend when they host Chico State on Thursday, Oct. 16, and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Oct. 18, inside Lumberjack Arena.
