LAST TIME OUT
The Lumberjacks battled through two home matches last week, showing strong starts and competitive stretches despite falling in both contests.
On Thursday, Humboldt jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Cal State San Marcos rallied to take a five-set thriller, 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 17-25, 18-25, 11-15). Graysen Trupp fueled the attack with 14 kills and five service aces, while setter Brielle Wilson recorded her first career triple-double with 11 kills, 20 assists, and 15 digs. Elizabeth Jade Andrade added a career-high 22 digs and seven assists in the back row.
The following Saturday, the 'Jacks faced a tough test against perennial power Cal State San Bernardino, falling 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 13-25). Trupp again led Humboldt with eight kills, while Rahni Greene and Isabella Hartwig added five a piece. Wilson dished out 16 assists and Andrade notched her second straight 20-dig performance.
NO WORRIES VS. THE WILDCATS
Chico State (5-10, 1-7 CCAA) enters Thursday's matchup looking to find success in conference play after going 4-3 to start the season. After splitting last weekend's home matches, the Wildcats will look to make a statement on the road.
For Humboldt, the key will be maintaining the offensive balance showcased early in last week's five-set battle and continuing to pressure opponents from the service line. The 'Jacks will look to feed off the home crowd and regain their early-match rhythm against a competitive Chico squad.
MATCHING UP AGAINST MONTEREY
Saturday's opponent, Cal State Monterey Bay (2-13, 1-7 CCAA), will meet Humboldt for the second time this season while coming off of seven straight losses. The 'Jacks earned their first win of the year against the Otters on Oct. 4 in a five-set thriller, highlighted by double-digit kills from Trupp and a breakout serving performance from freshman Emma Fauth.
The rematch gives Humboldt a chance to continue the season sweep and close out its homestand on a high note. Strong serving, defensive consistency, and continued production from the 'Jacks' front line will be critical in the matchup.
