POMONA, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer team battled nationally ranked No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona on Friday night but came up short in a 4-0 defeat at Kellogg Stadium.
The Broncos (7-3-4, 2-2-2 CCAA) struck early, finding the back of the net in the 9th minute when Clement Badger converted off assists from Daniel Gutierrez and Marvin Gamez. Pomona doubled its advantage just before halftime as Gamez scored his eighth goal of the season in the 43rd minute to make it 2-0.
In the second half, Miguel Gonzalez extended the lead for the hosts in the 54th minute, and Andres Gutierrez added a late goal in the 89th to close out the scoring.
Despite the final result, Cal Poly Humboldt (2-10-1, 0-6-0 CCAA) showed persistence throughout the match, generating nine total shots—five of which were on target (Nathan Murff - 2, Harper Thweatt - 2, Izaiah Grosveld -1). The Jacks also saw nine saves from Benjamin McDonald, as Humboldt's defense absorbed consistent pressure from a Pomona offense that tallied 22 total shots (13 on goal).
Cal Poly Humboldt now looks to regroup as they continue their Southern California road trip. The Jacks will return to action on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. when they take on (RV) Cal State Los Angeles at University Stadium.
