SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball pushed Cal State San Marcos to the brink Friday evening but came up just short in a five-set battle, falling 3–2 (20–25, 25–22, 22–25, 25–19, 11–15) inside The Sports Center.
Graysen Trupp powered the Lumberjack offense with a match-high 20 kills on .341 hitting, marking her sixth double-digit kill performance of the season and second 20-kill match. She also added five aces (career-high) and two blocks to cap an all-around standout effort.
Freshman Tatyana Jennings notched a career-high 13 kills while recording 13 digs for her first career double-double. Sophomore Brielle Wilson guided the Humboldt attack with a season-high 39 assists to go along with 13 digs, securing her own double-double in the effort.
Humboldt (1–18, 1–10 CCAA) battled evenly throughout, totaling 59 kills to San Marcos' 50 while collecting 61 digs and 12 service aces. The Jacks' most dominant frame came in the fourth set, hitting .310 to force a decisive fifth.
In addition to Trupp and Jennings, Sophia Spoja contributed across the board with 8 kills and a team-high 14 digs, while Isabella Hartwig and Trupp each tallied two blocks at the net.
The Cougars (4–15, 3–8 CCAA) were led by Addison Kranz with 14 kills, while Blayne Seligmiller and Ebony Lewis combined for eight of San Marcos' 11 aces.
Cal Poly Humboldt returns to action Saturday, October 25, continuing its Southern California road trip against (RV) Cal Poly Pomona at 5:00 p.m.
