Humboldt Falls to San Marcos in CCAA Opener

ARCATA, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer opened California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Friday afternoon, falling 4-0 to Cal State San Marcos at College Creek Field.

The Cougars (2-3-3, 1-0-0 CCAA) got on the board late in the first half with a goal from Efren Nunez Dominguez in the 39th minute, before adding three more in the second half. Justin Carreon and Malachi Wright scored back-to-back goals just two minutes apart early in the second half, and Cisco Avila capped the scoring in the 71st minute.

The Lumberjacks (2-5-1, 0-1-0 CCAA) battled throughout the match and created several scoring opportunities, finishing with eight shots — four of which were on frame. Izaiah Grosveld led Humboldt with two shots on goal, while Paris Ruiz and Dominik Chipp each added one apiece.

Sophomore goalkeeper Benjamin McDonald recorded six saves while playing all 90 minutes between the posts for the Jacks.

Cal Poly Humboldt will look to bounce back quickly as they remain at home this weekend. The Lumberjacks host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday, October 5 at 11:30 a.m. at College Creek Field. The matchup is designated as Youth Day, featuring free admission and postgame autographs with the team.
