Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Drew Gwerder

Jacks Battle Toros in Home Matchup

ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer came out with energy on Sunday morning but ultimately fell 2–0 to Cal State Dominguez Hills in CCAA action at College Creek Field. The Toros scored once in each half, while Humboldt produced some dangerous scoring chances in front of a strong home crowd of 367.

The Jacks grabbed the early momentum right out of the gate when Harper Thweatt fired a shot just 31 seconds into the match, forcing an early save from Toro goalkeeper Tiago Menezes. Humboldt maintained possession and continued to press before Dominguez Hills capitalized in the sixth minute on a corner kick, as David Politron converted to make it 1–0.

After the break, Humboldt again came out attacking. Izaiah Grosveld tested Menezes just seconds into the second half with a shot on frame, keeping the Toros on their heels. The Jacks continued to push for an equalizer until Davien Karanikolas doubled the Toro lead in the 66th minute off a pass from Alpha Sowe.

Humboldt's final surge came in the 76th minute when Paris Ruiz nearly pulled one back, striking the right post, before Cooper Stephens followed up with another attempt that sailed just wide left. Despite the strong offensive sequence, the Toros held firm to preserve the clean sheet.

The Jacks finished with nine total shots, including two on goal, led by Grosveld and Thweatt. Benjamin McDonald played the full 90 minutes in goal for Humboldt, facing 11 Toro shots.

With the result, Cal Poly Humboldt moves to 2–6–1 overall and 0–2–0 in CCAA play, while Cal State Dominguez Hills improves to 4–2–3 (1–0–1 CCAA).

The Jacks will play just one CCAA match next week, traveling south to face Cal State East Bay on Friday, October 10, at the Las Positas Athletics Complex in Livermore. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
