SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball battled through three competitive sets but ultimately fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) to San Francisco State on Friday evening at the Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza.
The Lumberjacks (0-13, 0-5 CCAA) showed steady improvement throughout the match, highlighted by their most efficient offensive set in the third, when they hit .207 as a team. The Gators (4-8, 3-2 CCAA) used a strong attack to secure the sweep, finishing with a .358 hitting percentage.
Freshman Tatyana Jennings paced the Humboldt offense, leading the team with 10 kills and adding two blocks. Graysen Trupp chipped in six kills and one ace, while Isabella Hartwig added three kills. Setting duties were shared among Claire Crawford (9 assists), Sophia Spoja (6 assists), and Brielle Wilson (6 assists).
On defense, Spoja anchored the back row with a match-high 14 digs, followed by Crawford with seven and Emma Fauth with four. Phoebe Bland and Jennings each recorded two blocks at the net.
Despite a slow start offensively, the 'Jacks battled point-for-point in the third set, forcing the Gators to close strong after a 4-0 run half way through the set.
Cal Poly Humboldt will look to bounce back on Saturday night when they continue their CCAA road trip at Cal State Monterey Bay. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Seaside.
